MGB Regional Office No. 1 geologists namely Mr. Socrates G. Gaerlan (Chief Geologist), Ms. Vilma A. Vecino (Supervising Geologist), Mr. Jose D. Lignes Jr. (Supervising Geologist), Mr. Riddick B. Bombase (Geologist II), and Ms. Marie Rose B. Aguda (Contractual Geologist), attended the annual Geoscience Workshop held last January 16 – 21, 2017 at the Lima Park Hotel in Malvar, Batangas.

Regional Director Samuel T. Paragas of MGB CALABARZON and Engr. Juancho Pablo S. Calvez, OIC – Office of the Assistance Director graced the event with their presence.

The said event focused on the accomplishments of the MGB Central Office and the Regional Offices on the following activities of the bureau: Quadrangle Mapping, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment, Groundwater Resource Assessment, Mineral Reservation Program, and IEC, PDRA, and Subsidence Hazard Assessment. Coastal Geohazard Mapping and Assessment was not included in this year’s workshop due to the conduct of seminar for this activity last December 2016.

Additional lectures on the Legal basis of Geological Investigation Report (GIR), Geological Site Scoping Report (GSSR), Geohazard Assessment Report (GAR), and Engineering Geological and Geohazard Assessment Report (EGGAR); on Rapid Earthquake Damage Assessment System (REDAS) Flood Loss Assessment Tool (FLOAT) module; and on map generation were given by the geologists from MGB CALABARZON and MGB Central Office.


Open forum and discussions of issues and concerns on the implementation of the various programs and projects of the Geosciences Division were conducted after the presentation of accomplishments of all Regional Offices. #MRBA
