Four geologists of the MGB R01 headed by Mr. Socrates G. Gaerlan (Chief Geologist) together with Ms. Vilma A. Vecino (Supervising Geologist), Mr. Jose D. Lignes (Supervising Geologist), and Ms. Marie Rose B. Aguda (Contractual Geologist) participated in the 2016 Geoscience Workshop held last August 24-29 at Icon Hotel, Timog Ave., Quezon City.

A Training on Disaster Preparedness, Response and Post-Actions to Natural Calamity was held on September 19-23, 2016 at the Philippine National Police Regional Office 1 at Camp Brigadier General Oscar M. Florendo, Parian, San Fernando, La Union. The training hosted by the PNP aims to educate and equip the PNP personnel with skills, knowledge and tools related to disaster risk reduction especially in terms of planning, responding and managing rescue operations.

Five (5) newly appointed and promoted employees of the office pledged commitment to public service during the Oath Taking Ceremony held on September 13, 2016 at the Office of the Regional Director, Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. I, Government Center, City of San Fernando, La Union.

MGB INVESTIGATES QUARRYING IN CABUGAO, ILOCOS SUR

The report came from Honorable Deogracias V. Savellano, Representative, 1st District of the Province of Ilocos Sur.

In his text message to Director Carlos A. Tayag of MGB Region I, the Honorable Congressman claimed dump trucks loaded with river aggregates sourced from the Cabugao River in Sitio Rebba, Brgy. Cacadiran, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur had caused damages to the baranagy road. It being used as an access road.

In view of the DENR Administrative Order No. 2015-07 issued by DENR Secretary Ramon J.P. Paje dated April 30, 2015, Mandating Mining Contractors to secure ISO 14001 Certification, the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 1 (MGB-1), in coordination with AGF Consulting Group-Philippines, a leading and training ISO-based management systems consulting and training firm in the country and in some parts of South East Asia, initiated an orientation seminar on ISO 14001:2015 Certification last July 20, 2016 at the DENR Bldg. Conference Hall in Sevilla, San Fernando City, La Union.

Personnel of MGB I seized twelve (12) units of ten-wheeler dump trucks believed to be loaded with mineral ores.

The trucks were initially flagged – down by members of the Philippine National Police, Pangasinan Province Police Office – Dasol Municipal Police Station in Brgy. Poblacion, Dasol, Pangasinan on 31 August 2016.

As part of the province wide groundwater assessment project of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. 1, a team from the Geosciences Division conducted their hydrological assessment in the Municipalities of Bauang, Caba, and Aringay, Province of La Union last August 1 – 29, 2016.

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau-I (MGB-I) participated in the Provincial Planning Workshop on Mainstreaming Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP) held at Hotel Ariana, Bauang La Union on July 29, 2016. The activity spearheaded by the Department of Interior and Local Government aims to orient the participants to have a better understanding on the importance of Climate Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) and how it is undertaken and to finalize the requirements needed for the training such as barangay data and other pertinent information as well as the strategies to be employed for identified LGUs along Major River Basins (MRBs).

The Mines and Geosciences Bureau conducted a seminar on the results of its geohazard mapping and assessment. The 3-day event spearheaded by Geosciences Division was held at Villa Marand Resort and Spa, Baccuit, Bauang, La Union. It is in line with the National Geohazard Mapping and Assessment Program (GMAP) of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau, a banner program of the government aimed to identify areas in the country which are susceptible or prone to geologic hazard. The seminar intends to equip the various stakeholders with vital information in order to lessen or mitigate the adverse impacts of calamities.

Pursuant to DENR Administrative Order No. 2007-20, otherwise known as “RULES AND REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE ISSUANCE OF PERMIT OVER RECLAMATION PROJECTS AND SPECIAL PATENTS OVER RECLAIMED LANDS”, creation of a Composite Team composed of a representative from DENR technical services (LPDD, CDD), EMB, MGB, concerned PENR and CENR Offices was undertaken.
