LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – As the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) commemorates its 31st year anniversary on June 10, DENR Region 1 along with line bureaus Mines and Geosciences Bureau-I (MGB-I) and Environmental Management Bureau-I (EMB-I), PENROs and CENROs held an advanced celebration on June 7-8, 2018 at the Narciso Ramos Sports Complex in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
On its 31st year, DENR vows to continue strengthening the environmental protection and conservation of the country’s natural resources.
This year’s anniversary also coincides with the Environment Month Celebration with the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution: If you can’t reuse it, refuse it”. DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu shared how important it is to reuse plastic items or products to reduce it as it contributes to the country’s major problem on pollution. Thus, he encouraged the public to reuse usable alternatives such as plastic bags and plastic bottles.
Various activities and fun games were prepared for the more or less 700 DENR personnel in the region. They were then grouped into four (4) teams (Green, Blue, Orange and Brown). Each team actively participated in the sports and fashion activities set for the said family day.
Meanwhile DENR-I Regional Director Reynulfo A. Juan shared the importance of teamwork in accomplishing tasks and helping one another in attaining a common goal. He encouraged everyone to do their share and contribute in the environmental protection not just for the Environment Month but for the year round.
Pangasinan 2nd District Representative Leopoldo Bataoil graced the opening ceremonies and expressed his support to the plans and programs of DENR especially in the National Greening Program in which he is very much active in. His advocacy in promoting ilang-ilang as a product that will help in the livelihood and tourism in the Province of Pangasinan. Cong. Bataoil also gave a couple of ilang-ilang seedlings to participative DENR employees during his talk.
