MGB 1 conducts 1st Provincial Summit in Ilocos Norte

PAOAY, Ilocos Norte – The Mines and Geosciences Bureau Region 1 held its first ever Provincial Mining Summit on July 27, 2022 at Paoay Lake JLP Resort. The theme “Responsible Mining Industry: Catalyst to National Economic Recovery” aims to highlight notable achievements and accomplishments of the Minerals Industry in Pangasinan for the past years and until now. These achievements shall be celebrated with continued progress in pursuit of improved programs and projects for the environment and improvement of the lives of the citizenry.

The activity was participated by mining companies, permit holders, local government units and other stakeholders. This served as an avenue to advocate MGB’s thrust and programs, disseminate recent updates on policies and clear grey areas affecting the minerals industry in the province.

 

MGB-1 Regional Director Socrates Gaerlan emphasized his support to the plans and programs of the bureau for the environment. These plans have been firm in stating that responsible mining in the country should, be people-oriented, protect and enhance the environment, strictly adhere mining and environmental laws and regulations, contribute its fair share to the national income, be a world-class, efficient and effective and competitive industry.

DENR 1 Regional Executive Director Atty. Crizaldy Barcelo, EMB 1 Regional Director Maria Dorica Naz Hipe and Ilocos Norte PENR Officer Victor Dabalos graced and supported the summit in the efforts of informing, educating and communicating the benefits of the mining industry to the economy of the nation and to call for action towards #MineResponsibility.

Recent DENR Policy Issuances focusing on Industrial Sand and Gravel Permits and Dredging projects were discussed in connection to the ongoing dredging projects within Padsan River and Bislak River.

Concluded projects of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office No. I within Ilocos Norte highlighting the Sentinella Hill of Bangui, Abang Falls and ongoing Mineral Reservation Project were also presented. The Integrated Mining Information and Education ( I-MINE ) enumerated its upcoming projects and completed projects for CY 2022.

Most outstanding permit holders and individuals with great contribution towards responsible quarry operations for CY 2021-2022 were given recognition by the Provincial Quarry Office.
